Forty-two Salmon Fingerlings were released into the Muskegon River Friday, May 16, 2008
Our salmon eggs arrived during the second week of November. Cameron was the first to notice our eyed eggs. The salmon alevins started coming out over the Thanksgiving weekend! The salmon alevins were very active in our tank as they changed into frys. The Salmon frys turned into fingerlings and started swimming in a school for the most part. Demetrio noticed that a few of the fingerlings like to be by themselves. We think that they may be males. We lost six fingerlings due to the poor choice of jumping out of our tank. Several students had names for their favorite Salmon. They grew in our class from an egg of 5 to 6 mm in size to fingerlings as big as 12 cm. The students are working on writing about the life cycle of Salmon. Here are some student writings. Salmon By Maria Salmon By DeMetrio
