Ms. Lakos'

Oakview Kindergarten Classroom 102

Ms. Lakos

My name is Alexis Lakos and I have been with Muskegon Public Schools for ten years and taught kindergarten all of those years in many different buildings in our district.  I went to MCC and Grand Valley for my Associates and Bachelor degrees and now I am at Western finishing my Master’s degree in Reading.  I love working with kindergarteners and we will have a great year!  Now on to the basics of kindergarten:

1. Every Friday, you will receive "Friday Mail", which has homework to do with your child and a newsletter from me. You may return the homework and the Friday Folder the next week to get a sticker for the homework and for me to fill the folder for the next Friday.

2. I will put a discipline plan in your first Friday folder to let you know how our discipline plan works in our classroom. If you have any questions, please call me.

3. We have three parties during the course of the school year. I usually divide the parties up so five to six families do one party and that is the only party that I will ask you to donate something for the party. If anyone has a problem with this, please just talk to me and I will help you out any way I can. Thank you in advance.

4. I also will be sending home a snack calendar each month to let you know when it is your child's snack day. I only ask for somewhat healthy snacks such as animal crackers, goldfish crackers, popcorn, graham crackers, fruits, veggies, yogurt, fruit snacks, p & j sandwiches, etc. If you have problems with the day assigned, please talk to me.

5. School will start at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 3:35 p.m. Lunch is usually from 11:50-12:10 p.m. and recess follows until 12:30 p.m. If you need to get your child early or if your child will be late please call the front office at 720-2450 or my room at 720-2465! Also, please check with the office to check out your child early. Thank you!

6. Please make sure that your child's backpack, coat, hats, mittens etc. are labeled with just their initials in case anything is lost or stolen. I would put the labels in the inside of these items so no one will know your child's name except us. Safety First!

7. If anyone other than you is going to pick up your child, please let me know by calling me, writing me a note, and/or filling out the additional form that I am sending home.

8. We usually go on two field trips during the year, sometimes more. We go to the pumpkin patch or apple orchard in October and to the farm in May. Volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

9. And finally, I realize and understand that kindergarten is a big step for you and your child. Letting go is never easy, however it is very crucial to your child's emotional adjustment to kindergarten, if when you drop your child off to school, that you kiss and hug them and tell them you will see them very soon and then leave. This lets your child know that you are comfortable leaving them here and that they will be fine. If you stay and comfort them they believe that you are here to protect them and then it is harder to say goodbye! Just some words of advice.
