Mrs. Jennifer Agard's
First Grade Classroom
Welcome to first grade!
I hope that your child is enjoying their first grade experience! What a great group of kids!
Please watch for a newsletter to come home each Friday. It will give you an overview of all of the things we are working on right now in our classroom. Attached to this newsletter will be your child's homework for the week. You and your child have a full week to do this homework packet as it is not due until the following Friday. Please send it back to school on that day in your child's BBT folder. If you do not receive this packet, please call me so that I can send another one home with your child.
Here are some ways that you can help support your chld with what we are doing in school:
1. Read, Read, Read!!! Read with your child, to your child, let them read to you... a good goal would be for the two of you to spend about twenty minutes a day doing this.
2. Keep the "flashcards" that come home with the word wall words printed on them. Have your child practice reading them, practice spelling them to you, and practice writing them.
3. Have your child count large sets of objects, for example a handfull of buttons, or pennies. Your job is to sit with them and watch and listen to them so you can ensure that they do this correctly.
4. Give your child a "practice" spelling test on Thursday night so they are ready and confident on Friday when we do the "real" one in class.
