Dear 1st grade families,

My name is Scott Duffey and I will be your child's first grade teacher this year.  I will begin this letter with a little information about myself.  I graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2001 with the degree of Bachelor of Science.  While at GVSU I majored in mathematics and had a special emphasis on elementary education.  I began my teaching career the day after graduation as a long term guest teacher at Nelson Elementary in a fifth grade class.  From there, I was hired to work as a middle school math teacher at Steele Middle School, where I taught 6th and 7th grade math for five years.  In 2006 I changed directions and came to Nims to teach 1st grade.  This is my eighth year teaching for Muskegon Public Schools. 

One very important piece of knowledge that I have gained through the years is that communication between school and home is crucial.  There are a few different ways in which this communication can take place: telephone, weekly newsletter, this web page, notes to and from school, after school when picking up your child, and email.  Please feel free anytime to call, email, or send a note.  If you call and I don't answer please leave a message and I will get back to you.
