Mrs. Slagle

MRS. SLAGLE

I have been at Nelson School since 1990!  I taught special education for 11 years and have been in 4th grade ever since.  I graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School, Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University.  I absolutely love the kids, staff and all members of the Nelson Family.  I have 3 sons, 2 cats and enjoy hockey, tennis, cross stitching and springtime.

PROJECTS

We recently participated in the Lakeshore Lung Society's Smoke Free poster contest.

We are planning on participating in the Nelson Neighborhood Clean-up Day this spring.

A recent project resulted in Samamtha D. being named a winner in the Hackley Public Library's Black History Month Contest.  Her artwork will be presented in the new calendars coming out in March.

READING

In reading, our focus is on Community Ties.  We have read about becoming a citizen and about Firefighters.  We were very honored to have Mr. Darric Roesler from the M uskegon Fire Department come in with his crew members and share his experiences with us.  We got to see the truck and ask questions.

WRITING

Our focus right now is using a strong "voice" in our writing.  It helps our writing come alive and gives it personality.

MATH

We just finished fractions and had a sweet treat for a final activity.  We will move on to measurement next.

SCIENCE

We are currently working on Properties of Matter and will finish the year with Weather and Climate.  After spring break, we will be spending time on Reproductive Health with the 4th grade boys and girls.

SOCIAL STUDIES

In Social Studies we have been studying the regions of the U.S.  We have visited the Northeats, Southeast and are now in the Midwest.
