Mrs. Freeland's Third Grade Classroom
MRS. FREELAND
I love Nelson School because of the hard-working and kind students that fill our hallways! My favorite subject to teach is reading!
I am married and have five children! We live out in the country with our three dogs, two horses, and three steers. I love to read and travel. I am learning how to play tennis and how to downhill ski.

PROJECTS
READING
Third grade is an extremely important year for reading. Each student is expected to be reading 110 words per minute fluently. The students are also expected to understand what is read and answer questions correctly about what is read.
WRITING
We are learning to include lots of interesting details in our writing. We are also learning to write how two stories are the same and how the same stories are different.
MATH
We begin the year learning about graphs. In October and November we will be learning geometry concepts and learn to measure using the metric and the standard systems. We will work on addition and subtraction problem solving in December. January we will begin Multiplication. Each shild is expected to be able to answer thirty random multiplication facts 0-9 in two minutes! Then in March we will work on fractions. In April and May we will continue learning about geometry.
SCIENCE
We begin the year studying the life cycles of plants and animals. Then we learn how living things survive in their environments and study food webs. We learn that all living things are dependent upon one another for survival. Next we study how air and water change the earth and learn where water comes from. Finally we study our body systems: digestive, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, and skeletal.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will learn all about the great state of Michigan. We will begin by studying Mighigan's Geography. Then we wil learn about our state government. Then we will study Michigan history. We will end learning about Michigan manufacturing.
