Dear Parents and Marquette Supporters,
We have certainly already had a VERY exciting year and still have wonderful activities to occur in May and June. Be sure and mark your calendars for a family evening on May 13 to celebrate our cultures and May 23 at 10:00 is reserved for our Fifth Grade Celebration. You are also invited to attend our Awards Celebration on May 4 at 10:00 for K-2nd grade students and at 2:00 for our 3rd through 5th graders to honor our student's academic, attendance, and other achievements.
In case you missed Kindergarten Round-up this year or know of a neighbor who is interested in enrolling a student, just stop in the office and we can take care of the enrollment.
I personally want to thank all those parents, grandparents, family members and friends for attending our Celebration of Learning: "Sharing What You Know evening. Your support for all the students in this school was certainly evident by the interest you had in listening to students share their expertise in a topic of their choice. Research shows that student achievement rises when students have a choice in the demonstration of their learning and we are well on our way along that "academic road". We also know that when students take ownership for their learning they remember the information and apply it to their lives. Our exhibitions are again one method we have experienced great success with thanks to your support.
I also want to thank our current PTO members, Renee' Dault, Jackie Mendiola, Omar Newsome, Ellen and Kevin Rifkin, for organizing the Marquette Lock In. The kids really had a great time and have shared many experiences with me. We again appreciate all your supports; Marquette parents ARE the best!
We received wonderful news from the Michigan Coalition for Essential Schools. We have been recommended to the National Coalition to be an Affirmed Essential School. We are anxiously awaiting further information that will be given to us on May 6 and at that time hope to receive the banner for our school. This three-year commitment on the part of our staff has been stellar! Marquette is very lucky to have such committed teachers and staff who work together as a fine tuned learning community eager to always improve their teaching skills to benefit your child's learning.
The best for every child, every day,
Gay Monroe, Principal
