“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom.  It’s my personal approach that creates the climate.  It’s my daily mood that makes the weather.  As a teacher, I have a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous.  I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.  I humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.  In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.”

-Dr. Haim Ginott

Dear Bunker Family,

For the next few weeks our social studies class will be studying geography.  We will begin by learning about the five geographical themes geographers use to study Earth and we will learn about the tools they use to measure and map it.  We will then learn about the movement of Earth in space and how it affects the seasons and causes day and night.  Next we will study the forces and physical features of Earth and the affects of climate and weather on the planet.

The remaining portion of our studies will include learning about he earths's natural resources, how they are used and how people affect the environment.  You can help your student understand this part of our studies by discussing where the different products in your house come from, what resources are found locally and what programs are available in our community to protects the environment.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lane
