Legacy: A Decade of Collecting

This exhibition draws from a body of artworks added to the MMA Permanent
Collection since 1997. These artworks came to the Museum by purchase and through the generous gifts of our supporters, both past and present.

January 17-March 16, 2008

Heavens Above: Photographs of the Universe From the Hubble Space

Telescope

This exhibition of 30 photographs of the universe from the Hubble Space
Telescope was organized by the NASA Space Telescope Science Institute
and the Midland Center for the Arts. Dramatic images fromt eh farthest
reaches of space, thousands of light years away, are mounted in
lightboxes to show the perspectives of space and beyond.

February 7-April 20, 2008

Sonja Blomdahl: Incalmo/Glass

This exhibition will feature 35 vessels from the Seattle glass artist
Sonja Blomdahl's personal collection and is part of the first museum
showing of this artist.

March 20-May 4, 2008

Maria Tomasula: Paintings

Maria Tomasula's paintings are vibrant and luminous, boasting an eerie
beauty in their /trompe l'oeil/ detail. Flowers, fruit, meat, insects
and other natural objects are portrayed within shallow spaces
reminiscent of centuries of Christian devotional imagery.

Works by Muskegon area kindergarten through the 12th grad public and
non-public school students will be displayed in the /Expressions 2008:
The 26th Annual Muskegon Area Student Art Exhibition./

Special exhibition featuring a select group of top acknowledged
masterpieces from the MMA collection./

Sunlight in a Paintbrush: American Impressionism from the Midwest

Collections

The MMA's rich holdings in American Impressionism - paintings by
Metcalf, Pendergast, Isham, Reid, Melchers, and Robinson among them -
will from the foundation for a significant group of works celebrating
American Impressionism from private and public collections throughout
Michigan and the Midwest region.

May 29-July 30, 2008

80th Regional Exhibition

Large juried show of paintings, glass sculpture, prints, photography,
fiber art, ceramics and more by West Michigan artist in the state's
longest running regional exhibition.
