"Education is not a preparation for life; Education is life itself." - John Dewey
Muskegon residents are offered a wide variety of services through Muskegon Public Schools. Elementary students are involved not only in the basic academic subjects but also in art, music, and physical education. Secondary students are offered a comprehensive curriculum including courses for general education and college preparation. A Vocational Consortium offering 13 career and technical programs provides occupational training for both Muskegon and area-wide public school students. Our district is enriched by an award-winning music program, outstanding athletics, and a dedicated staff of educators.
Special services are provided for students identified as "at risk" or "high need" through a comprehensive compensatory program which has been commended by the federal government as one of the top 100 programs in the nation. Programs in bilingual and migrant education are also provided.
Instructional Philosophy
Muskegon Public Schools' instructional philosophy is student centered. We believe students learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning. For that reason, we place special emphasis on abstract thinking and problem solving, cooperative learning, hands-on science, interactive technology, real world activities, and life skills.
